1. Who we are
design-profiler ("we", "us") is an independent online journal for design developers, published by the design-profiler Collective at design-profiler.oup.com. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at info@design-profiler.oup.com.
2. What we collect
We collect personal data in exactly two situations, both initiated by you:
- Newsletter subscription. When you subscribe to the Tuesday letter, we store your email address and the date you subscribed. That's the entire record.
- Email you send us. If you write to one of our contact addresses, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message, and we keep the correspondence for as long as it's needed to handle your request.
There are no user accounts, no profiles, and no comment system on this site.
3. What we don't collect
- No analytics or audience-measurement scripts.
- No advertising, ad pixels, or affiliate tracking.
- No fingerprinting, session recording, or heat-mapping.
- No third-party tracking cookies. In fact, the site sets no cookies at all.
- No sale, rental, or sharing of your email address with anyone, ever.
4. Storage on your device
The site stores nothing on your device. There are no cookies, no localStorage keys, and no identifiers of any kind; the only caching that happens is whatever your browser does for every ordinary page.
5. Third-party services we rely on
- Fonts. Pages are set in Georgia from your own operating system. No font files are requested from any third party, so no font service ever sees your visits.
- Image delivery. Article photography is served from a content-delivery network; requesting an image discloses your IP address to that CDN in the same way as any other web request.
- Newsletter delivery. The Tuesday letter is sent through an email delivery provider acting as our processor, which stores subscriber addresses solely to deliver the letter on our instructions.
6. How we use your data
We use your email address to send you the newsletter you asked for (legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time via the unsubscribe link in every issue) and to reply when you write to us (legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you). We do not use your data for profiling, advertising, or automated decision-making.
7. Retention
Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe, after which they are removed from the active list. Contact correspondence is deleted once the matter is resolved unless we need to keep it to comply with a legal obligation.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR), you have the right to:
- access a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted ("right to erasure");
- withdraw consent at any time (for the newsletter, the unsubscribe link does exactly this);
- lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
To exercise any of these, email info@design-profiler.oup.com. Given how little we hold, most requests are completed the same week.
9. Children
The site is a technical publication aimed at working professionals and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children; if you believe a child has subscribed, contact us and we will remove the address.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "last updated" date above and, for material changes affecting newsletter subscribers, note the change in the next issue of the letter.
11. Contact
